Again, and th<font size="2">anks for your time. Well</font>, what I tried to do, without success was the following;<br>
I downloaded two filesystems from the proposed URL, and also a kernel from the same page based on what
</font><font face="Courier New" size="2">Mr. Joao proposed. Kernel version was 3.9.6 and both of the filesystems was UML.<br>

Then after extracting using bunzip2 and giving executing permissions on the files, I issued the following commands;</font><i><font face="Courier New"><br>

<b>./kernel32-3.9.6 ubda=./BusyBox-1.13.2-amd64-root_fs mem=256</b><br>

</font></i><font face="Courier New">The output mentioning faults, was the following;</font><i><font face="Courier New"><br>

</font><b><font face="Courier New" size="2">- /proc/mm...not found: No such file or directory<br>
- PTRACE_FAULTINFO...not found<br>
- PTRACE_LDT...not found<br>
UML running in SKAS0 mode<br>
Adding 14876672 bytes to physical memory to account for exec-shield gap<br>
setup_physmem - mapping -14188288 bytes of memory at 0x0x9c00000 failed - errno = -12</font></b><font face="Courier New"><br>

Since I have too many issues I will try to make it easier for me. My first plan was to create a network lab with ipv6 nodes and then scan them using a tool. nmap was my first choise. Then I could make it more interesting creating ipv4 as well, complex routing
etc.<br>
<br>
Does any of you no a specific package that could offer just that kind of tools, network scanners and simple networking between nodes.<br>

It depends on the tool you want to upgrage. In most cases, the thing should be smooth enough or pull a reduced set of dependencies.<br>

You do not necessarily need to delete the existing filesystem image: just download one of the images from the suggested URL and save it somewhere on your disk. You can then instruct Netkit to use that image by setting the environment variable NETKIT_FILESYSTEM
to point to the newly downloaded file.<br>

Please consider that usage of these filesystem images with Netkit is unsupported and may result in unpredictable behaviors and/or reduced functionalities.<br>

depending on the package you are willing to install, there may be a high number of dependencies that cause a major upgrade of the filesystem image. And the upgrade may fail because of some other "chicken-and-egg" conflicts in package releases.<br>

Which package(s) are you interested in updating/installing?<br>

In the meantime, you may want to consider that a very active Netkit user has independently updated the filesystem image build scripts and made them available here:
<a href="https://github.com/kartoch/netkit-uml-filesystem" target="_blank">https://github.com/kartoch/netkit-uml-filesystem</a>. Depending on your needs, rebuilding the image from scratch using this system may be a way to go.<br>
