as you can see no "modules=" parameter is passed is this a fluke/glitch? and
can I possibly add it manually or where do I need to tweak in order to make
it automatic?

The /etc/rcS.d/S19mount-modules-dir file is there and I get what happens.
The $MODULES environment variable is empty because it didn't find the right
argument on the cmdline.
