Three PhD positions in discrete geometry and related areas
are available in Prague, Czech Republic

Two of the positions are available at Charles University and one at Czech
Technical University.
Besides the base scholarship provided by the universities, the positions are
supported by a five year project "DiGeo: Fundamental Questions in Discrete
Geometry" (2023-2027) funded by the Science Foundation of the Czech
Republic,

EXPECTED STARTING DATE: February 1, 2025 (negotiable)
MONTHLY INCOME: 11000 CZK scholarship + 21000-25000 CZK salary
(Health insurance paid, no tuition.)
THE PROJECT is focused on problems in various areas of and related to
discrete geometry, including convexity questions for point sets,
visibility, graph drawing, crossing numbers of graphs, semialgebraic
hypergraphs, and Delaunay graphs.
POSSIBLE ADVISORS include Martin Balko, Vit Jelinek, Jan Kratochvil, Jan
Kyncl, Maria Saumell, and Pavel Valtr.
TEACHING DUTIES: max. 1 tutorial (90 minutes) per week during the
semester.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant
area obtained before January 31, 2025.
When filling the positions, the gender balance in the team shall also be
taken
into account.

- a short letter of motivation (research statement), ca. 1-2 pages
- CV
- 1-2 letters of recommendation
- transcripts of all courses and grades
- copies of academic certificates (Bc and MSc, if available),
- other optional materials, e.g., published or submitted papers, copies of
English language certificate if available, etc.
