================================ PHD POSITION IN COMBINATORIAL GEOMETRY
================================

at MTA-ELTE Combinatorial Geometry (CoGe) Research Group of the Eötvös
Loránd Tudományegyetem, Budapest, Hungary.

Application Deadline: Feb 15, 2018

By enrolling to the university's PhD program, you'll be eligible to take a
wide variety of courses from excellent professors (our faculty includes
László Lovász, Miklós Laczkovich and other famous mathematicians), while
doing research in our group specialized in combinatorics, and more
specifically, combinatorial geometry. We expect applicants to hold an MSc
degree (if you don't, see below at *) in mathematics or computer science,
with a background in combinatorics, and good program solving abilities,
preferably proved by results in competitions. More about our group on our
webpage: http://web.cs.elte.hu/coge/

There are two options to apply for a stipend. EU citizens can apply
directly to the University's doctoral program at, with the same conditions
as Hungarian citizens:
https://www.elte.hu/en/doctoral-school-of-mathematics

Non-EU citizens of most countries (see list below at **) are eligible to
apply for a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship here:
https://apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu/courses/course/420-phd-doctoral-school-mathematics?search=1190830

Both stipends give the same amount of non-taxable income, the same amount
that Hungarian students get according to the current Hungarian legislation.
The monthly amount of the scholarship is HUF 140 000 (cca EUR 455) for the
first phase of education (4 semesters) and HUF 180 000 (cca EUR 585) for
the second phase (4 semesters) - for 12 months a year, until completion of
studies.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

* An Msc degree is a requirement for enrolling in PhD studies. There is,
however, a similar stipend available for students of all levels wishing to
study in Hungary. For our university's MSc program see here:
https://apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu/courses/course/456-msc-mathematics?search=1208768
Talented studends with a BSc degree are encouraged to apply this way, but
note that the value of the scholarship in this case is much lower, HUF 40
460 (cca 135 EUR) per month. This amount can be approximately doubled from
our grant, which should be enough to meet the basic expenses, but usually
there are also teaching opportunities to further increase students' income,
if needed.
